Regarded as one of Mendelssohn’s most popular chamber works, the Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor displays a breathtaking combination of virtuosic and lyrical interplay by piano, violin and cello, from the passionate first and second movements to the spirited Scherzo and dazzling finale. Composed some sixty years after, Vaughan Williams’ rarely heard Piano Quintet in C minor delivers quiet and yet expressive passages that exude a strong Brahmsian flavour. Join the musicians of the SSO, who, together with guest pianists Pang Siu Yuin and Albert Tiu, will present an afternoon of charming chamber classics at the School of the Arts Concert Hall this May.
