Featuring the world-renowned Frederick Fennell and his Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. Not my favourite renditions but these evergreen wind band standards are a terrific platform to show off the virtuosity and musicianship of this unbelievable Japanese ensemble. Featuring piano soloist Adam Wodnicki and percussionist Steve Houghton. This marvellous recording is one of the many excellent releases from the Klavier Wind Recording Project featuring Music Director Eugene Corporon and the North Texas Wind Symphony. All aspects of the recording, from the selection of the repertoire, the execution of the pieces (virtuosic yet, musically expressive) to the sound engineering is near faultless! A must-have in every wind musician’s collection! THIS CD IS REVIEWED IN-DEPTH HERE

David Lang Are you experienced? Under Orpheus. Netherlands Wind Ensemble directed by Stephen Mosko.CHANDOS New Direction CHAN9363
For the modernist-inclined, here’s a release from avant garde composers David Lang and John Adams. Short Ride has recently seen many performances by many of the major orchestras in the world. The Netherlands Wind Ensemble proves beyond a doubt that a wind ensemble can do as well (maybe even better?).

These CDs and other Band stuff can be ordered on-line from the Singapore-based Band CD Gallery, operated by Lester Lim. Go take a look!
