MOZARTSymphony No. 38 in D major, K.504 ‘Prague’

SSO’s Concertmaster Igor Yuzefovich takes centrestage in Barber’s Violin Concerto, one of his best-loved compositions, which started life as a commissioned work but was reportedly rejected by the intended soloist, who declared its finale too difficult to play. Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 was premiered in 1787 in Prague and its statuesque opening anticipates the overture to his opera, Don Giovanni, which also premiered in Prague the same year.
