Sneak peek at the ‘new’ Victoria Concert Hall
It’s hardly an exaggeration to say that music-lovers in Singapore have missed the Victoria Concert Hall – since the last notes resounded in 2010, when it closed for a major renovation, many have felt that Singapore’s lacked a proper chamber music venue, and I certainly have many fond memories of some unforgettable concerts from that hall.
Sound-testing is in progress, and Chan Yoong-Han, First Violin Fixed Chair with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, with Gu Bing Jie, Ng Pei-Sian, Yang Zheng Yi, and Albert Tiu, who play the Vaughan Williams Piano Quintet on 25 May 2014, link, were the among the first to play in the great hall on 18 May 2014. They played the English composer’s quintet as part of the sound test – kind of apt, no?
Tweaks are in progress and will almost certainly be different by the time the VCH opens again, much later this year, but in the meantime, here are some photos to whet your appetite.
Don’t forget to catch their concert (NOT at the VCH, it’s at the SOTA Concert Hall)
